Really bad timing...

A day after Salesforce.com issued a press release touting a whole month with 99.99% uptime... They experienced a significant outage that resulted in intermittent access for over 3 hours.

This one is particularly bad because of the release. If it wasn't a day after the "99.99%" uptime release it may not have picked up so much bad press.

Question of whether you think an anecdote is more significant than data. I pick data. I also work for Salesforce, but that doesn't influence my opinion on the anecdote vs data debate.

I guess it depends on how you look at the data. Let's face it, 99.95% uptime is a great statistic. Unless, of course, the .05% downtime comes at the end of the month as your sales team is trying to enter deals into the system. In that case, the anecdote is more relevant because it talks to the problems associated with any amount of downtime.

The funny part is most other rivals of sfdc offer a better uptime guarantee, like entelium and salesboom.com. Even SAP talks about a 100% guarantee!

But none celebrated the uptime, ever! I think sfdc thought: Wow, what an accomplishment! Since they are not used to that!
